Highlights from the testimony in the water company rate case heard today.
Water Services of Kentucky, Inc. (WSK) files no Kentucky taxes. The parent company, Utilities, Inc. pays the 35% federal tax rate and 5% state tax rate. However, she was unclear whether those taxes were paid in Illinois, the home of Utilities, Inc. or in Kentucky.... Water Services, Inc. paid a portion of the Utilities, Inc. Christmas Party and UI company picnic in Illinois. .. If granted, the $1434 tap on fee will be highest in the state.

On July 2nd in a laundry list of appointments, Governor Beshear appointed seven members to the Board of Directors of West Kentucky Community & Technical College in Paducah. I missed it – being all about the 4th of July holiday and my grandchildren coming to visit...
.. It seems a brouhaha has erupted six weeks later on an online site in Louisville over the appointment of Larry Kelley of Wickliffe. Kelley is a college friend of the Governor’s. Locally, the reappointment of Bruce Brockenborough, who ran against Rep. Frank Rasche in 2006 has stirred consternation.
