PTHS NJROTC named Distinguished Unit

Paducah Tilghman High School’s Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) unit has again been named as a Distinguished Unit for the 2010-2011 school year.
Being named a Distinguished Unit is the program’s fourth consecutive national award and the fifth since the NJROTC program started at PTHS in 2001.  The Paducah Tilghman NJROTC unit was eligible to start competing for the honor in 2004.

FRANKFORT, KY – Gov. Steve Beshear today recognized the sacrifice of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the Department of Defense, Sgt. John P. Castro, 25, of Andrews, Texas died April 22 at Paktika province, Afghanistan of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked by small arms fire. He was assigned to1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.
