Last month, NPR's Investigation Unit with help from the Ohio Valley ReSource broke news that federal regulators failed to prevent an outbreak of the worst form of Black Lung Disease, an outbreak that now affects more than 2,000 miners.
Tonight FRONTLINE from PBS will air a special program, "Coal's Deadly Dust." The program depicts the rise of an aggressive form of black lung disease plaguing thousands of coal miners across Appalachia - and how federal regulators and the industry failed to protect miners.
