Heather Ryan, Democrat, takes on Ed Whitfield, Republican, in Louisville Event
Heather Ryan, Democrat, Takes on Ed Whitfield, Republican, in Louisville Event

Democratic candidate for 1st congressional District, Heather Ryan took her fight with incumbent Republican Ed Whitfield to Louisville on Wednesday. Ryan, her husband Carl and their six month old baby, Ireland, show up at the Louisville Metro Democratic Club political debate for US Senator.

The Louisville Metro Democratic Club had invited Bruce Lunsford, Greg Fischer, and Mike Cassaro to discuss issues for the Democratic Primary for US Senator. Fischer and Cassaro show up. Lunsford did not.

In a bold surprising move, Democrat Heather Ryan, from Paducah, Kentucky made the long 300 mile trip from West Kentucky to Louisville to show her colors and to set up a network of supporters against Republican Ed Whitfield.

Early in Ryan’s campaign against the long term Republican Whitfield, several factors are becoming clear.

(1) Voters in far Western Kentucky have yet to acknowledge that they know a congressional battle is about to rage across their part of the state.

(2) Most voters are concern about the cost of gas and food.

(3) Bush and the National Republican politics of fear and war is becoming a major
negative weight for Ed Whitfield to carry into the campaign for re-election.

Ryan told this publication that the Metro Democratic Club event was well worth the trip. Money heavy weights and potential volunteers greeted her immediately after the debate was over. Ryan is in her organizational part of the campaign.

She said, “I came to Louisville at the request of several new groups who want to help defeat Republicans across Kentucky. The leadership of these new political entities expressed strong desire to help set up phone banks, raise money, and put boots on the ground come the November election.”
