Allison Lundergan Grimes got the biggest applause of the evening according to those who listen for these things. Certainly, her seating between Calloway Democratic legends Z. Enix and Jack Rose is indicative of her standing with Democratic royalty.

Grimes, the daughter of Jerry Lundergan, who most recently brought Kentucky solidly and resoundingly into Hillary Clinton’s column in the last presidential primary, told the crowd that Dad would want credit for her victory over Elaine Walker to become secretary of state. She gave credit to supporters who turned out in May to choose her over Steve Beshear’s candidate.

Grimes, another up and coming first time candidate, said that Kentucky is hungry for leaders who will lead the state forward.  They also want to see a secretary of state who stays in budget, is business friendly and assures that every vote will count.

Grimes will face GOP candidate Bill Johnson who squeaked by Hilda Legg in the primary.
