Young Scientist Challenge Names Holtgrewe As National Finalist
Seventh grader John Holtgrewe

(Paducah KY July 12, 2011) - Paducah Middle seventh grader John Holtgrewe was chosen as one of 10 finalists in the Discovery Education 3M Young Science Challenge, a national science competition.

His project is a tool that allows diabetes patients to diagnose harmful nerve damage in their feet sooner to prevent injuries.

Holtgrewe and the other finalists will have an opportunity to work directly with a 3M scientist during a summer mentorship program. The finalists will be challenged to create an innovation that solves a problem found in everyday life. Mentors will guide the finalists as they develop their ideas from a theoretical concept into an actual prototype. The prototypes will be presented at the competition’s final event at the 3M Innovation Center in St. Paul, Minnesota
