2013 Calendar a joyous tour of Jackson Purchase

(Clinton, KY November 26, 2012) – “Sunlight and Shadows in the Jackson Purchase 2013 Calendar” is a joyous celebration of one of the most beautiful and little known areas in America.

From the Mississippi River to the Lakes, there are few days and fewer places with nothing to tempt the eye and the camera.  That’s what co-authors and photographers, Mary and Ivan Potter found as they went looking for views to illustrate their third calendar.

Mary had the task of sifting through the thousands of photos the couple have taken over the past five years living in the Purchase. She looked for pictures that captured the beauty of each month.

Ivan wrote the descriptions in his unique free flowing poetic style.  This year, by accident and not design, each of them contributed seven photos to the 13 month calendar which runs from January 2013 through January 2014.

Ivan Potter’s talent is getting up close and personal to capture new views of trees and flowers is on display in the delicate purple bloom that is the background for the cover. As in the past, Ivan’s bold daffodils herald March.

In summer, a purple leaf “lords over other garden plants after an early morning rain.”  May is his a study of pink astilbe, a feathery shade perennial in the foreground of a garden scene.

Mary Potter's focus is on large scenes. Her photo of an eagAugust 2013 - whimsy on fourteen wheelsle soaring over the Mississippi River on a wintry day begins the yearly calendar. January 2014 is a study of a lone speedboat racing across Kentucky Lake on a misty morning.

Two of her favorites also made this year’s calendar. August, the month the Potters celebrate their birthdays and their wedding anniversary is graced this year by a giant Tootsie Roll Pop on a “rolling fourteen wheeled tapestry” in Ivan Potter’s words. Her second favorite is of a lone John Deere tractor lighting up a December field.

“Sunlight and Shadows” will be available for $15 at the Hickman County Arts Fair on December 1st at the Hickman County Elementary Gymnasium. The co-authors will be on hand to sign their calendars.

The authors welcome mail orders. Customers are invited to order calendars for themselves or as a gift for family and friends far from the beauty of the Purchase. First class shipping in the US available for $7. International shipping quoted.
