Farm Bill Reauthorizes Delta Regional Authority

Federal Co-Chairman Chris Masingill, State Co-Chairman Missouri Governor Jay Nixon, and the governors of Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee worked very hard to make sure that full funding for this planning and development agency would continue to exist.

With passage of the Agriculture Act of 2014, the Delta Regional Authority was given a budget allocation limit of 30 million dollars each year until 2018.

The Delta Region, made up of 252 counties and parishes in eight states, is one of the most historic, culturally rich parts of the country yet daily life remains a struggle for many.

Most of the counties within the Delta region are poor counties that border or are in close proximity to the Mississippi River. This is one of America’s poorest regions where jobs have long ago disappeared.

Through strategic economic development investments in the Delta region’s communities, families and businesses, the Delta Regional Authority strives to create jobs, build communities, and improve the lives of the nearly 10 million people in the Delta region.

Much of the Delta Regional Authority activities in Kentucky relate to being the glue or central piece of funding to bring a local or regional project to life. Primary focus is for job creation or leadership training.

The Delta Region in Kentucky includes all counties in the Purchase and Pennyrile section of West Kentucky.
