Thirty-three students at Paducah Tilghman High School have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on Advanced Placement Exams for the 2013-2014 school year.

The College Board's Advanced Placement Program (AP) provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on AP exams. About 18 percent of the 1.8 million students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP scholar Award.

The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on students' performance on AP exams.

William Hancock (PTHS '14) qualified as a National AP Scholar by earning an average score of at least 4 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on at least eight of these exams.

Eight students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. The AP Scholars with Distinction are Cassie Arboleda (PTHS '14), Lillian Burba (PTHS '14), Trae Hampton (PTHS '14), William Hancock (PTHS '14), Justin Holt (PTHS '14), Cole Spicer (PTHS '14), Andrew Zaninovich (PTHS '14), and senior Victoria Taylor.

Jacob Holtgrewe (PTHS '14) and William Stuart (PTHS '14) qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

Twenty-three students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP exams with scores of 3 or higher. The AP scholars are Elizabeth Behrens (PTHS '14), Miles Butler (PTHS '14), Yasmine Martinez (PTHS '14), Hannah Massa (PTHS '14), Logan Oatman (PTHS '14), Eric Robertson (PTHS '14), Cason Walden (PTHS '14), seniors Rachel Benzing, James Bilak, Trevor Bunte, Marcus Corbett, Karlee Humphrey, Elizabeth Katz, Anne Lasher, Parker Loyd, Eli Noneman, Gabriel Orlowski, Lucas Reed, Molly Thompson, Mary Weatherspoon, and juniors Reese Butler, Lauren Eickholz and Megison Hancock.

109 students took at total of 176 AP exams in 2013-14. 64% of the students who took an AP exam scored 3 or better. The state average for students who scored 3 or better was 61%.
