Lampe named station manager for WKMS

Murray State President Bob Davies has named Chad Lampe as the new station manager of WKMS, effective February 1, 2016. Lampe served as the WKMS news director since 2007 and as interim station manager during the national search for the position. Kate Lochte retired as station manager during the fall of 2015 after nearly 25 years of service. In his new role, Lampe will oversee all operations of the station including news, engineering, business and fundraising.

"In my time at Murray State, Chad has demonstrated exceptional professionalism, an unparalleled commitment to public radio and is a respected community member. Chad has served admirably in the role of interim director and I know that he will continue making significaChad Lampe, WKMS station managernt contributions to Murray State and the region in this role."

During Lampe's time as news director he mentored over 25 student and part-time reporters, many of whom received state, regional and national awards for their work. In addition to managing the newsroom he helped initiate the Kentucky Public Radio Network (KPRN) grant collaboration among five Kentucky stations, developing a statewide newscast to serve the listening areas of those stations. He also collaborated with regional stations in the creation of the new Ohio River Network securing a new full-time reporter for WKMS to cover a transitioning economy in the rivers region. Lampe serves on the Board of Directors for Public Radio News Directors Incorporated.

Lampe has statewide recognition due to numerous television appearances on KET's Comment on Kentucky to present news and issues significant in western Kentucky. He's also served as moderator for political forums for KET, WKMS and the Paducah, Murray and Mayfield Chambers of Commerce.

"It's an honor to lead such a great team at WKMS," said Lampe. "We are looking forward to charting our path to keep WKMS essential to this region. We'll embark on long-range strategic planning immediately to keep this resource here and strong for our community of listeners and members."

A native of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Lampe holds a master's degree in mass communication from Murray State University. He resides in Murray with his wife Angela.
