Wingo student brings grandfather to show and tell about war experiences on Veterans’ Day

FAMILY AFFAIR – Wingo Elementary student Cody Miller (wearing yellow tee-shirt) brought his grandfather, U.S. military veteran Donald Rogers, to school on Veterans’ Day. Rogers showed his uniform and photos to his grandson and the rest of the second grade students. He also told about his experiences in the Vietnam War. “Hearing directly from veterans, especially family members, is a great learning experience for kids,” said Wingo principal Sarah Saylor. “It puts a face, stories, and direct connections to history in the students’ minds. We really appreciate Mr. Rogers’ visit and all the other visitors who take time to talk to our students throughout the year.”
