Purchase Area Jefferson Jackson Dinner 2011: Bob Farmer – the right name for the job

Bob Farmer, candidate for Ky Commissioner of Agriculture

Bob Farmer won 86 out of 120 counties in the primary in his quest to succeed another Farmer as Commissioner of Agriculture. He credited the Democratic crowd for that accomplishment. Maybe.

Farmer, who denies being kinfolk to that other Farmer who shares his last name, is a gregarious talker whose forte is advertising. He’s the spokesman for the Farmer’s Almanac. He told the crowd that the new version will be out in time for the Fancy Farm Picnic the first Saturday in August.

Farmer criticized Commissioner Richie Farmer for doing nothing in agricultural economic development. He said that Kentucky has one biodiesel plant. Illinois has forty.

“States around us are moving ahead.” He told the crowd. He promised to work with Jerry Abramson, whom he called “an economic engine” to bring agricultural economic development to Kentucky.

Bob Farmer will face Representative James Comer who the GOP primary against Shelby County Judge Rob Rothenberger.
