New Murray State President Bob Davies will be in Clinton at 10:00 a.m. at the Senior Citizen Center on August 1st to dedicate a new e-learning center. Using a grant, Murray State University partnered with state and federal resources to supply refurbished computers. (see "More")

The first e-learning centers went into the cities of Fulton and Hickman in June. Other centers are planned for Carlisle and Ballard Counties. The river counties do poorly in measures of internet speed and usage.

Dr. Davies began work on Monday, July 14th. President Davies came to Murray State from Eastern Oregon. Hickman County will be an early outside field trip for a president who told the Murray Ledger and Times that one of his three top goals is hearing what MSU means to the region. His other goals include lobbying in Frankfort for the university and eliminating programs that aren’t working.

Restored computers will be available at the Hickman County Senior Citizen Center which is located just two blocks from the center of Clinton, the county seat. An initial plan to locate the e-learning center on Highway 51 at the Hickman County Business Center had to be scrapped when Draughon’s College announced that it is leaving Hickman County. Without the school and the adult learning center, which was also relocating, the e-learning center had to be moved.

Access to computers will be available to anyone in the community. Future plans are to provide instruction in use of computers and using the internet for job searches. Other classes will be developed as the center becomes more fully functional.
