First District Representative Steven Rudy, at left, is in his second term in the Kentucky Legislature. He told the crowd that energy is a very important issue. That’s why, he said, “Me and Senator Leeper filed a bill to build a nuclear plant in Kentucky.” 

Rudy said he is for tightening the state’s belt in hard economic times. He will fight for the sanctity of marriage and the rights of the unborn. Rudy derided his opponent for campaigning on a platform of being a fulltime legislator, saying, “I think we need more people in Frankfort who have real world experience and, to be honest with you, we have our fill of full time politicians.”

Rudy is employed by RudyFarmCenter, a business established by his grandfather on the edge of BallardCounty.

When his turn came to speak, challenger Mike Lawrence, shown at right, shot back, “It’s better than being a part-time or hobby representative any time. If I say I’m going to be full-time, it’s what I am going to do. I’ll be in your yard, your fields, and your businesses and I’ll be in Frankfort doing whatever it takes to turn this economy around and get jobs in this area.”

Lawrence, the McCracken Circuit Clerk for the past sixteen years told the crowd that in all his years as clerk, he never asked anyone if they were a Democrat or a Republican. He told the crowd that he will focus his efforts on working for West Kentucky.
