The USDA reported on Oct 11, 2016 - Among U.S. households with children under age 18: 83.4 percent were food secure in 2015. In 8.8 percent of households with children, only adults were food insecure. Both children and adults were food insecure in 7.8 percent of households with children (3.0 million households).

According to Feeding America, "In 2015: 42.2 million Americans lived in food insecure households, including 29.1 million adults and 13.1 million children. 13 percent of households (15.8 million households) were food insecure. 5 percent of households (6.3 million households) experienced very low food security." www.feedingamerica.org/hunger-in-america/.../hunger-and-poverty-fact-sheet.html

Addressing food insecurity in the eight counties served by the Purchase Area Development District is one of the missions of the PADD.

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program distributed 48,260 pounds of food to 1641 seniors during the month of January 2017. Distributions of cereal, cheese, pasta, milk, canned meat, vegetables and fruits were given out throughout the eight counties in the Purchase Area Development District, according to a report by Clay Black to the PADD Board of Directors on Monday.

The Emergency Food Assistance Program distributed 70,658 pounds of food to 2708 households during the month.

In addition to distribution of food, 2,213 meals were served in on participating soup kitchen.
