(Clinton KY - February 17, 2018) - The weather started out frowning on the first Family History Day at the Hickman County Historical and Genealogical Society. But rain early in the day did not deter family historians from gathering and swapping stories about ancestors now gone.

Eddie and Jerone Clark shared the story of one family member in on the final shoot out with Bonnie and Clyde. It's not clear who filed the fatal shot but Ed Lawson was one of those firing away at the famous bank robbers. The encounter ended badly for the lovers.

The Clarks brought musical equipment that the DeArmond family produced in earlier years. Musical instruments and sound equipment were highly prized. Family lore contends that the DeArmonds taught Chet Atkins to play the guitar. Shown at left, this DeArmond foot pedal now has antique status

The DeArmonds left a mark on the state of Tennessee. The Clarks found two hills, called knobs, named DeArmond. In the center of the Cherokee National Forest, the knobs can only be reached by helicopter or backpacking.

By the end of the day, between ten and fifteen people came by to chat and to look around at the collection of books and photographs. Brother Charles Blair brought magazines to add to the Historical Society's research materials. The Spencer Journal donated to Historical Society

Historical Society Chair Ivan Potter, shown at right, spent a great deal of time creating a family tree. By the end of the day he had learned of several family members that were previously unknown to him.

The Hickman County Historical & Genealogical Society is housed in the former Ben Franklin. The Society is open by appointment and Thursday and Saturdays.
