The latest debate between two of the three gubernatorial candidates, Jack Conway (D) and Matt Bevin (R) at Centre College was again not televised in Western Kentucky. Online streaming was available.
Independent candidate Drew Curtis sat in the audience.
The debate/forum/Q & A would have been boring except for what Matt Bevin said ...
Get ready Grandma - it's time for your test..
Your drug test that is.
According to WHAS News Radio, Matt Bevin, in response to a question from Jack Conway, said he favors random drug testing for Medicare recipients because old people are on the "on the draw."
From the station's website: "Bevin was asked specifically why he supports random drug testing for Medicare recipients... and he responded that seniors receiving Medicare are "on the draw" even though recipients must have paid into the program during their working life.
Bevin went on to call for random drug testing for anyone receiving social benefits, but it's unclear how far his assertion would go to those who receive Social Security retirement or disability payments."
Democrats in Washington were quick to nationalize Bevin's statement. From their headquarters in DC, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz called on Republican presidential candidates to repudiate drug testing for seniors.
