In name only is Wal-Mart an American company. In practice, Wal-Mart is a global conglomerate of interlocking world suppliers and vendors, forced to cut costs each year by using inferior ingredients and almost slave labor. Wal-Mart is a global corporation that reaches out for global domination of the marketplace.

Stone, came up with some unhappy statistics for towns without a Wal-Mart. Even towns with a Wal-Mart see small businesses suffer when a larger store locates nearby.

At 4:00 a.m. on Friday November 23rd, the young, the bold, and the bargain hunters rushed the doors of Best Buy, Kohl’s and J. C. Penney’s to secure the first treasures of the 2007 Christmas shopping season. Many of these shoppers had been camping out in Paducah for hours in the cold waiting their chance to make the run into the bargain tables before anyone else.

Shoppers jammed the Internet on the first Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday to spend a record $733 million online for gifts. This day marked the official start of the holiday season for online retailers. The online research firm, ComScore Inc. reported that this season’s Cyber Monday sales of $733 million was a 21 % gain from the same day a year ago.

At 45, Wal-Mart is now middle aged. With sales of $345 billion last year in 5,779 stores in 13 countries, Wal-Mart employs 1.9 million people. Walmart has the clout to dictate prices and package design to giant suppliers like Proctor & Gamble, Campbell Soup and Dell which rely on Wal-Mart's stores as one of their biggest, if not the biggest, distribution channel.
