State Leaders and Kentucky National Guard to Sign Military Covenant
To date, the Kentucky National Guard has mobilized more than 10,000 Soldiers and Airmen in support of the Global War on Terror, with 780 troops deployed overseas at this time.   
 
The Kentucky Guard has also responded in full force in support of Hurricanes Katrina, Gustav and Ike, in addition to the homeland security mission along the Arizona-Mexican Border and natural disaster relief missions within the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Calloway County GOP HQ Humming
The Calloway County GOP headquarters in downtown Murray had lots of Ken Winter, Mitch McConnell and Ed Whitfield signs. Bumper stickers like “Sportsman for Mitch” and Veterans for Mitch” were readily available. Calloway County Republicans on duty on Saturday told us they had handed out 525 McCain signs and were now out of signs for the presidential race.

Ballard County Hit by Ike
 Residents across the region were surprised Sunday morning when strong winds struck the area.  The surprise wasn’t from the winds but from their source.  What was once a category 3 hurricane, roared into our region early Sunday morning bringing 50-MPH winds and wind gusts.

Gas Gouging Before and After Ike
  
 As commuters learned of the anticipated price increases, an ensuing frenzy began at local stations. Many drivers found they were too late when it was reported that some stations in Paducah had already raised their prices to $4.59 per gallon. Ballard Countians arrived home on Thursday evening only to awaken on Friday to find the prices had increased from $3.69/gal to $4.59 in LaCenter. 

Prices in Wickliffe didn’t go up until after noon on Friday but as I pumped $40 in gasoline at $3.79 gallon, the price was being changed to $4.29 a gallon.
