Regional Agriculture Conference for Environment, Resources and Sustainability set for Nov. 17

MURRAY, Ky. — The Murray State University (MSU) school of agriculture is hosting the Regional Agriculture Conference for Environment, Resources and Sustainability (RACERS) on Wednesday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The conference is free and will be held at the W.M. “Bill” Cherry Exposition Center in Murray.

Kentucky State Parks Seeks Nominations for Youth Ambassadors

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky State Parks are looking for young people who like to visit parks and want to tell others about their experience.

The Kentucky State Park Youth Ambassador Program is a voluntary program for youths who are at least 16 years old, living in Kentucky and enrolled in a Kentucky high school, college or technical school. The parks are looking for young people who are creative, team oriented and are enthusiastic about the outdoors.

We are all only human.  And so we have our fears whether rational or not.  I had my fears as a child.  Horses.  Cows.  (Those fearsome critters could step on a little kid and squash him like a bug!)   

        Today I have a new phobia.  A new terrifying new object of fear!

Mayfield Zoning Board approves mosque
The Mayfield Zoning Board reversed its late August decision and approved a request by Somali refugees to use a vacant storefront as a worship center. The ACLU had threatened to sue the Board if the reversal hadn't happened. Channel 6 reports that Board members said that was not the reason for the reconsideration and reversal.

One of the most important things I learned from my research was that in our area, spring really was not the best time a person should be considering putting in a home orchard anyway. For our area, late October through the end of December is the ideal time for planting these types of trees.
