...Sandbagging assistance for Ballard County and Smithland has been requested and 24 Kentucky National Guardsmen (KyNG) have been deployed to each location.  Hancock County has requested additional sandbags and the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has provided 10,000 sandbags to county emergency officials.  Thirty-one KyNG personnel are enroute to the Daviess-Henderson County line to assist sandbagging operations at the KET/KEWS Tower...

The following counties/cities have declared a state of emergency: 

Counties: Ballard, Carlisle, Calloway, Carroll, Crittenden, Fleming, Fulton , Hardin, Henderson , Hickman, Livingston, Marshall, McCracken, Morgan, Nicholas, Spencer, Union and Webster.

Cities: Bardwell, Benton , Calvert City , Carrollton , Hardin, Hawesville, West Liberty and West Point.

Sen. Paul offers info to constituents in storm area

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following the recent storms throughout Kentucky, and the increasing flooding in Western Kentucky, Sen. Rand Paul today offered the following statement and information to constituents.

“The severe weather, tornadoes, high winds, and heavy rains have inundated Western Kentucky, leaving residents with power outages, property loss and a record amount of flooding. As Gov. Steve Beshear declared a state of emergency for the Commonwealth yesterday, it’s important we come together as Kentuckians to look after our neighbors and communities,” Sen. Paul said. “I keep the people of Kentucky in my prayers as we deal with the aftermath of this disaster.”

AQS Quilt Show goes on despite flooding

The show must go on. That was the decision of American Quilt Society (AQS) organizers in the face of threatening weather. The AQS Quilt Show and Contest is in its 27th year in Paducah, Kentucky. Because of the ingenuity and hard work of organizers and volunteers, the 2011 show opened on schedule on Wednesday, April 27th and will run through Saturday, April 30th.  Show events include workshops, a fashion show, awards ceremony and the screening of a movie about quilting called “Stitches”. According to event materials, there are 386 quilts vying for $120,000 in cash prizes.
