Verso Announces Plans for Major Reductions in Coated Paper and Pulp Production Capacity

Actions at Androscoggin and Wickliffe Mills Will Reduce Production Capacity by 430,000 Tons of Coated Paper and 130,000 Tons of Dried Market Pulp

Just seven months after purchasing the paper mill formerly known as NewPage and formerly-formerly known as Westvaco, Verso Corp is closing the plant down. To read the reasoning for the shut down, read the press release posted on the company website after the jump:

Clinton, KY. August 20, 2015 - Once again the urgency to consider hemp as an alternative crop comes out of the blue. The closing of the Wickliffe paper mill and loss of those very good jobs, the quietly sinking price of row crops and the need for jobs in counties that may be "work ready in progress" but have few new prospects, leave me to wonder why hemp research is dragging on for at least another year.

MURRAY, Ky. -- Christian Faculty Network (CFN) is sponsoring a speaker event, "God's Blueprint: Scientific Evidences for a God-Designed Universe," on Monday, Aug. 31, at 7 p.m. in the Curris Center Theater, located on the third floor. The event is open to all students, faculty, staff and members of the surrounding community.
