Troopers Wanted

The Kentucky State Police announces testing for trooper applicants will be held the week of October 18, 2010 at the Department of Criminal Justice Training located on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Ky.

KSP applicants must be 21 years of age, a U.S. citizen, in good health and possess a valid driver’s license with no more than six driver demerit points. Applicants must also possess a minimum of 60 semester hours or an associate’s degree from an accredited college or university or be a high school graduate with at least two years of either active military duty or experience as a full-time, sworn law enforcement officer.

Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers Also Wanted

The Kentucky State Police is accepting applications for the position of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer I.

Applicants must be 21 years of age, a U.S. citizen, in good health and possess a valid driver’s license. They must also meet at least one of the following standards: 1.) a minimum of 54 college credit hours, 2.) a high school diploma with at least two years of active military duty, 3.) two years of experience as a full-time, sworn law enforcement officer, 4.) two years of experience as a commercial vehicle inspector under the North American Standard requirement.

Physical agility testing for all applicants is scheduled for Oct. 2010 with a 16-week cadet class beginning in March 2011.

Current law enforcement officers who are POPS certified (Peace Officer Professional Standards) can enter field training after successful completion a three-week Commercial Vehicle Safety Regulation course.

KSP Commissioner Rodney Brewer says he is eager for the hiring process to begin.

“The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division plays a vital role within our agency,” he said. “We intend to utilize the website, special media and other unique recruitment tools to draw a broader range of applicants.”
