Gov. Beshear Skipping Jefferson Jackson Calloway Dinner, But Will Be in Paducah Same Day
UPDATE: The Governor was absent but other Dem pols made the scene. Pictures will be forthcoming as soon as we can sort through the bunch we took.

The Governor will be in Paducah Monday at 1:00 to talk about the pension bill. The word we hear is that he plans to then go to Owensboro to talk to firefighters at 3:30 that day.  This is the email that went out.

Where he will NOT be is in Murray Monday evening for the Jefferson Jackson Dinner - the second biggest gathering of Purchase Area Kentucky Democrats - Fancy Farm being the biggest.

This does not make sense - Governor Beshear is passing up the chance to talk to 400 Party leaders and loyalists. The people that he will need to support his future programs, initiatives and campaigns. Coming to Paducah and giving notice on Friday for the faithful to gather there in the middle of a work day is sad planning on the part of his office.  Oh, there will be a crowd of retirees and public officials, but it will be nothing like the multi-county gathering at the Curris Center.

One has to wonder if the Governor's Office knows the distances and the geography involved in getting West Kentuckians together.  While McCracken is the largest county by far, it is not as centrally located as Calloway, nor will it have a ready made crowd of well wishers.

The Calloway County Dems who worked hard getting the Jefferson Jackson Dinner together would have felt gratified if the Governor came to the Dinner as a surprise guest. That would mean turning around from Owensboro and heading back to Murray - which makes just about as much sense as going to Paducah in the middle of a work day.

C'mon, Governor Beshear. You are a smart man - make your staff pull out a map and a calendar and plan your trips to get the most bang for the buck.

On second thought, maybe Bill Bartleman told him that he would get exclusive front page coverage in the Paducah Sun and on the Paxton's Channel Six if he comes to Paducah early in the day.

Oh man, is the Gov. in for a surprise!
