High schoolers: CyberCave is back for ninth year

MURRAY, Ky. — Applications are now being accepted for the ninth summer of Murray State University’s CyberCave Academy, which is open to all high school students interested in technology.

CyberCave Academy, a telecommunications technology camp for high schoolers, will host three weeks of camp this summer. Two camps for first-year students are scheduled for June 3-8 and June 17-22. The second-year camp for returning students will be July 8-13.

The Program of Distinction in Telecommunications Systems Management (TSM) at Murray State sponsors the camp.

The mission of CyberCave is to expose high school students to computer technologies through hands-on, interactive activities. It gives them the opportunity to learn about a variety of technology while introducing the students to the college atmosphere through residential housing, campus dining and other on-campus activities.

The first year camps are designed for students at any experience level. During these camps, students will learn everything from building networks to installing and configuring network applications.

The second year camp is aimed at returning campers and focuses on network and host security. Throughout this session, campers will learn network defense techniques, network traffic analysis, how to bridge firewalls and more. The second year camp also includes a field trip and guest speakers.

Students attending will stay on the Murray State campus for five days and are supervised by TSM student counselors and staff. Although the majority of the time is spent in the lab, several other activities are planned for the students to enjoy during the week. These activities include movie nights, scavenger hunts around the campus, and exercise and recreation time at the MSU Bauernfeind Recreation and Wellness Center.
