Outgoing Principal Jan Johnson, Special Ed Supervisor Judy Canty and new Principal Keri Dowdy share smiles at first staff meeting.

(Clinton, KY) - As Principal Jan Johnson moves to the Board Office as curriculum supervisor, replacing retiring Dianne Owen, Keri Dowdy, a Graves County elementary school teacher has been selected to replace her as Hickman County Elementary School Principal.

Keri Dowdy, originally from the Farmington area, comes to her new position with seventeen years experience teaching at Sedalia Elementary School.

Dowdy is a National Board Certified teacher with certifications from the Ron Clark Academy, Mickelson/Exxon Mobile Science/Math Teachers Academy, and the Steve Spangler Science Academy. Dowdy has been named Kentucky Elementary Science Teacher of the Year and received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math/Science Teaching and the Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence.

Principal Dowdy will officially begin her duties on July 1st, but she was in Clinton on Thursday, May 30th for a staff meeting. She was able to meet Jan Johnson, who gave her a book to help her get started in her new position.

One of Dowdy's strengths specifically mentioned by Assistant School Superintendent Casey Henderson is her ability to obtain classroom grants. Over her career, she obtained over 25 different classroom grants.
