Charles Hines Named Branch Manager of Internal Affairs for Department of Corrections

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 21, 2016) - Kentucky Department of Corrections Commissioner LaDonna Thompson today announced that Charles Hines has been appointed to branch manager of the agency's Internal Affairs. Hines assumed his new duties on Jan. 1.

"Charles Hines comes to the Department with an extensive investigatory background which will be invaluable in his new role to lead our internal affairs branch," said Thompson. "We look forward to the leadership and professionalism he will bring to the agency. He is a welcome addition to our management team."

Hines began his career with the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet (NREPC) in 1993 as an environmental investigator at the Division of Waste Management. He served as one of two environmental crime investigators for Kentucky. Upon creation of the NREPC Office of Inspector General (OIG), Hines was promoted to environmental control supervisor. He was responsible for the executive support section (internal affairs).

In 2002, Hines was promoted to executive staff advisor and moved to the newly created OIG in the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC). There he served as deputy inspector general.

Hines is certified by the Association of Inspectors General based in Pennsylvania. He retired from state government in 2012.

In 2014, he returned to the KYTC OIG as a special investigative agent III following a short period as a contract investigator for the agency.

Hines is a 20-year retired United States Army Military Police Corps Veteran.
