GOP Poster - Barack Obama as a Terrorist
The obviously home made poster with photo shopped photo of Barack Obama hanging in the Murray GOP HQ that we got a photo of when we visited didn't bother us so much then.

In light of what we are seeing and hearing on television and hearing and seeing around us, we have to wonder:  When does stirring up the troops become stirring up hatred and creating fear?

We think that when the candidate chosen by one of the two major parties is pictured as an enemy of the United States, it is pretty clear that the impression sought is not just "don't vote for this guy", but be afraid of this guy.  That's a long step from disagreeing with an economic plan or a tax incentive or health care policy.

That's appealing to the fearful child in all of us - afraid of bad guys, afraid of the unknown, afraid of those who are different.

Barack Obama is pictured here as a Muslim, with a beard (which he doesn't have) and a turban (which he doesn't wear) photoshopped to have more than a passing likeness to the terrorist Osama Bin Laden.

The question is: what was the point? Does the Calloway County GOP really believe that Obama is a Muslim? From what we see of John McCain and Sarah Palin's crowds, there are people who do believe it.  And John McCain saying, "He's not an Arab" isn't quite the same thing as saying, "He's not a Muslim and even if he was, millions of Muslims are not terrorists."

We hear every day from people confused by the lies being spread by those who will do ANYTHING to win.  Listen to a lie often enough and it sounds like truth. Hear it repeated by enough people and it sounds like truth.

We know that those of you reading this do not believe that Barack Obama is a terrorist (because that is what the lie is really about, isn't it?) or a Muslim or an Arab. And those of you know that his energy plan is not "Inflate your tires".

For those who keep spreading lies and mistrust and think that winning is all that matters, we have a question for you and we quote one far wiser than we.

"What profit a man to gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"
