Almost 2000 Gather at the River!

Young, old, political professionals, novices, lookers, askers, and fifth graders came to be a part of history. Columbus, Kentucky hosted almost two thousand visitors who came to take the measure of a presidential candidate. They came on motorcycles. They came in Model A restored cars. They came in school buses, in minivans and pick up trucks. They walked up the hill. They rode in golf carts and baby strollers. They used walkers and canes. They called their friends and sent them photos on their cells. They used fancy cameras and throwaways. The youngest was three months. Little Ireland Delaney McNew came with her momma and her daddy and slept through the whole event. Her mama's t-shirt read "Democrats Deliver". The oldest was in her nineties. She has been an activist in politics longer than most of us have been alive. She walked up the hill carrying her own lawn chair and told bystanders to "go help someone old." Eighty five year old Jack Boswell of Carlisle County, Kentucky said "it was the place to be" as he listened from a picnic bench in the shade.
