Bartleman's New Math - Again

Bartleman's New Math - Again

Bill Bartleman keeps on counting.
Some may remember the dust up between Bartleman and the DitchMitchKy folks over attendance at Fancy Farm in August. Proven wrong on his estimates, he finally sort of retracted his estimate.

To paraphrase Ronald Reagan - Here he goes again.

The veteran reporter for the Paducah Sun reported in Friday's paper, October 5th, that John Edwards addressed a crowd of "under a thousand".

That estimate stunned event organizer Shawn Dixon and this publication. We all were there and we counted heads, too.

Here's what we saw. Prior to Edwards' arrival and as folks were still coming into the park, we counted roughly 400 eating barbecue to the far left of the pavilion, another 200 in line at Nicky's BBQ trailer to get barbecue, 600 seated before the pavilion, another 300 in bleachers and on lawn chairs on the hill overlooking the pavilion and another 500 students for a total of 2000.

Maybe Bill didn't walk around and count the crowd like we did? Maybe he stayed in one spot too long? Maybe the sun was too bright? Or all that Democratic enthusiasm made him a little dizzy. For whatever reason, we respectfully disagree with Mr. Bartleman's body count. We may be off a little - but he is off a lot.

Let's hope the next event that he attends he brings his calculator.
