Woo-Hoo, MSU!

Forbes ranks Murray State University among “America’s Best”

MSU top ranked Kentucky public on list; only Kentucky public to be named a “Best College Buy”

MURRAY, Ky. – Murray State University (MSU) has received recognition from Forbes in its 2010 edition of America’s Best Colleges. Now in its third year of rankings, Forbes looks at both public and private colleges and universities throughout the nation, considering quality, student and graduate satisfaction, and affordability and value. Murray State has appeared among the top colleges, scoring above any other Kentucky public university on the list all three years.

In addition to landing on the “Best Colleges” listing, Murray State was also designated one of the top 100 “America’s Best College Buys.” MSU is the only Kentucky public school included as a “Best Buy,” and has been for the two years Forbes has ranked this particular category. Factoring in quality and sticker price, the researchers found the institutions on the “Best Buy” list to be offering excellent educations at a more affordable price for parents and students.

According to a special report by Forbes.com, any college showing up on its overall list is among the best in the country. “We review just nine percent of the 6,600 accredited postsecondary institutions in the U.S., so appearing on our list at all is an indication that a school meets a high standard,” the report notes. “In tough economic times, it is difficult to justify assuming large debts for college when the future payoff is uncertain. Knowing where you can get the most quality for each tuition dollar spent can help.”
