STOP!! Thank a Kentucky Veteran Christmas Card Program a Hoax

The Thank a Veteran program is an internet hoax according to Snopes.com. Read more here - www.snopes.com/politics/christmas/soldiercards.asp

We apologize for any inconvenience that may have resulted from the posting. Our initial information came from the Kentucky National Guard Family Assistance Center. They sent out a correction that we didn't get.

If you forwarded addresses, let your contacts know that their cards won't end up where they wish them to go.

There are other ways to thank our soldiers for their service. A letter to the editor is nice, but with 12% of the homeless veterans, volunteering at the local homeless shelter may go farther. Those close to a veterans' hospital (we have one in Marion Illinois - not far from Paducah) could call and offer to spend some time at the center volunteering.

We look forward to your ideas. The holidays are lonely times for those without families, in the hospital or long term care centers.  (The rest of the year is pretty depressing too!)

Send your ideas for "thanking a vet". We would love to hear them.
