UPDATED - THEY FIXED IT Whoops. Fletcher's Historical Display Inaccurate
Shortly before the November 6th election, Governor Fletcher authorized a historical display in the Capitol. Among the documents includes the Ten Commandments, the Magna Carta, and the Star Spangled Banner grouped around the statue of Abraham Lincoln in the center of the Rotunda. A federal judge has ruled that the display is constitutional. Unlike the granite Ten Commandments that were previously ordered removed from the Capitol grounds, including the Ten Commandments with other documents is constitutionally permissable. The question now is the accuracy of its history. At least one error is easy to spot. The display lists two different dates for the adoption of the national motto "In God We Trust"- July 20th and July 30th, 1956. (The correct date is the 30th for you trivia buffs.)
