Justice Cabinet New Staff:
Secretary Brown Appoints 2 to Department of Juvenile Justice
FRANKFORT, KY (January 9, 2008) – Justice and Public Safety Cabinet Secretary J. Michael Brown today announced two appointments to the Department of Juvenile Justice. Ron Haws has been named Acting Commissioner for the Department, while Ann-Lynn Ellerkamp has been named Deputy Commissioner.
Prior to the appointment, Haws was the Western Kentucky Regional Director for the Department of Juvenile Justice, and is a former Facilities Regional Administrator with the agency. In addition, he has served in several capacities with the Illinois Department of Corrections' Juvenile Division, including Superintendent and District Parole Supervisor. A graduate of Bradley University with a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling, Haws has taught school and coached football, and served as Director of Youth Services for Peoria, Illinois. His appointment is effective February 1.
Ellerkamp is a former head teacher with the Audubon Youth Development Center and Cardinal Treatment Center in Louisville. As a former teacher in Jefferson County, she received several grants and awards for her work, and served as President of the State Agency Children's School Administrator's Association. Ellerkamp holds a Master's of Education from the University of Louisville. Her appointment is effective January 16.
"These two individuals bring exceptional talent and experience to the critical area of providing prevention programs, treatment and accountability to our troubled youth," Secretary Brown said.
