LOWES STUDENTS’ MISSION ACCOMPLISHED –
Lowes Elementary sixth grader Haley Gore and her classmates in teacher Stephanie Matthews' class were successful in their mission as astronauts assigned to establish a permanent base on the lunar surface recently. Each student was assigned a unique job they had to perform while working in Earth Mission Control or on board the Lunar Spacecraft. All students used skills in math, science, language arts and teamwork to accomplish the mission goals. It all took place at the Challenger Learning Center at Paducah.
SEDALIA STUDENTS LEARN AT CHALLENGER CENTER –
Sedalia Elementary sixth graders Paxton Dowdy (left) and Makaela Hargrove were among teachers Janna Mullins’ and Gail Howard’s students who participated in hands-on learning at the Challenger Space Center in Paducah recently. Located on the campus of West Kentucky Community and Technical College, the center is one of more than 50 space science education centers that were started by the families of the astronauts who died in the Challenger tragedy of 1986.
The center provides comprehensive educational school programs for students and educators all across the region. The school program includes professional development for teachers, curriculum for pre- and post-visit activities, extended activities on mission day and a two-hour simulated space mission.
GRAVES STUDENTS RETURN TO THE MOON –
Graves County Central Elementary sixth grade student Alexa VanCleve and her classmates in teacher Mandy Watson's class recently became the first humans to land on the moon since 1972 by participating in a hands-on space simulation, Return to the Moon™ at the Challenger Learning Center at Paducah.
