Schools face 2% state funding cut

Commissioner Holliday had some bad news for school districts Thursday.

Commissioner of Education Terry Holliday sent an email out Thursday morning informing school boards across the state that their budgets would take a 2% hit. With the state budget under pressure, schools will have to manage around the cut to preserve programs and staff levels.

He told parents and administrators at the Blue Ribbon presentation program that he wasn’t sure of his reception – which turned out to be a warm one. Holliday had been at Sedalia a year ago when Sedalia was nominated for the national award.

Holliday, who came to Kentucky from North Carolina, (see our story Holliday chosen to lead KY Schools) has been on the job for eighteen months.
