Music for a Cause

Angie Kinsey, Western Baptist Hospital

A symphony concert March 19 at First Baptist Church will raise money for Western Baptist Hospital ’s new Neonatal Intensive Care unit to allow families to stay close to home when their newborns need specialized care.

The Western Baptist Hospital Foundation and the Paducah Symphony Orchestra are partnering in this unique “Music for a Cause” benefit.  The symphony will donate $5 from each ticket sold to the March 19 event, when patrons order tickets and mention the phrase “WBH Foundation.”

The Exalted! Concert, the second of a two-part Stained Glass series, will feature the Paducah Symphony Orchestra performing Bizet’s Symphony No. 1 and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 5.  The Symphony’s new Maestro, Raffaele Ponti, will conduct the program at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at First Baptist Church at 2890 Broadway.  As part of the Paducah Symphony’s “Touch of Class-ical” program, Maestro Ponti will speak to patrons informally about the program before the concert at 7.

Funds raised through this “Music for a Cause” program will assist the foundation in raising funds for western Kentucky ’s first NICU, which opened in January. It is a six-bed Level II unit to treat sick and premature newborns; before it opened, those babies had to be transferred to other NICUs, often being separated from their mothers here. The foundation already has donated $300,000 and will continue supporting the unit’s needs.

This Stained Glass Series concert is funded in part by the Kentucky Arts Council, National Endowment for the Arts, the City of Paducah , as well as donations from generous community friends.

Tickets for the concert are $25 for adults, $12.50 for students, and $62.50 for a family pass (two adults and two students).  Paducah Symphony season subscribers receive an additional discount.  Tickets may be purchased at the Paducah Symphony Box Office & Shoppe at 201 Broadway in Paducah or by phoning 270.444.0065.  Patrons must mention “WBH Foundation” for their purchase to count toward the benefit.  Don’t miss this great opportunity to lend a hand and hear great music!
