Updated: Commissioner J. R. Gray is now Secretary J. R. Gray after the Governor's press conference after a press conference earlier this week. 

During his campaign, Governor Beshear assured labor activists that the Labor Cabinet, which became the Labor Department during the Fletcher administration, would be restored to its former glory. Gray, a legislator and retired union machinist and AFL business manager, took up his duties in Frankfort in January 2008.

Gray is a native of Marshall County with years of legislative experience. Labor t oversees worker's compensation, including the Worker's Compensation Board, occupational health and safety and compliance issues and labor management and relations.
