Camp Nelson Living History Weekend

Camp Nelson Civil War Days is a living history event showcasing the nationally-significant Union Army supply depot, enlistment/training camp, hospital facility and African American refugee camp. Reenactors from several states will assist in educating the public about Camp Nelson's role in the Civil War. Event includes period music, demonstrations, workshops, skirmish reenactment, tours, and more. Camp Nelson is located on US 27, six miles south of Nicholasville.

Public Archaeology Dig and 150th Commemoration of Battery Hooper

Participate in the archaeological dig at Battery Hooper to commemorate the 150th anniversary of its construction by the Union army near the beginning of the Civil War. Registration is free but required to participate in the dig. Three digging shifts each day: 9-11, 11:30-1:30 or 2-4pm. Admission to museum and activities is free, no reservation required except if you want to dig.
