(Paducah, November 5, 2011) - Over 150 Democrats turned out at McCracken County Democratic Headquarters on Friday evening to see Governor and Mrs. Steve Beshear and all but two of the Democratic ticket on Tuesday’s ballot. Elected officials and well wishers from the Purchase and Pennyrile lined up to wish the candidates’ luck at the polls.

rry Abramson, Beshear’s running mate, and Attorney General Jack Conway were on the plane with the Beshears for one last fly around the state before the election.
Candidate for Auditor Adam Edelen was asked, “Where’s Jack?”
Edelen replied, “Not here.” He quickly added that Conway and Abramson were campaigning in Louisville last night.
Beshear was obviously suffering from the “Tuesday in Belgium” syndrome. The first words of his speech were “Are we going to carry Warren County?” He was quickly reminded that Bowling Green in Warren County was the prior stop. He laughed off the gaffe and went on to ask if the team was going to win McCracken, the river counties and the Pennyrile, to which the crowd responded enthusiastically in the affirmative.
He went on to introduce each of the ticket individually after telling the crowd that “this ticket is the best ever.”
Candidate for Auditor Adam Edelen spoke after the Governor. He told the crowd that his opponent couldn’t pay his own bills. (Edelen’s opponent, John Kemper III filed for bankruptcy protection after a business failure.)

surer Todd Hollenbach, who is running to keep his seat, gave his usual upbeat assessment of the chances of Democratic candidates. The Republicans, he opined, are “depressed.”
Robert “Bob” Farmer running for Ag Commissioner against James Comer, told the crowd that if the whole Democratic ticket wins that the GOP will tag Senator David Williams with the loss. That, according to Farmer, will make a difference when Williams runs again to keep his seat as president of the Kentucky Senate.
The race for Ag Commissioner appears to be the closest with Comer running negative ads about Farmer’s jokes about Kentucky. Comer has emphasized that he is a full time farmer. Bob Farmer counters that his marketing experience is what farmers need to sell their products.
Alison Lundergan Grimes, daughter of politician Jerry Lundergan, introduced by the Governor as the most energetic of the group, proved his point by holding a pep rally complete with team cheer.
Grimes and her opponent disagree most over access to the polls. Bill Johnson, the GOP candidate supports stricter voter identification laws.

The Governor, ahead in the polls by double digits, is leaving nothing to chance. He told the crowd that at 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the score is 0 to 0. He urged his supporters not to take anything for granted. The down ticket may or may not be helped by the Governor’s race.
The final score will be totaled up for all on Tuesday evening when the polls finally close on Tuesday evening in West Kentucky.
