The Hickman County Bar Association showed its support for the Hickman County High School's Mock Trial Team by donating a notebook to each student to be used for the competition. The Bar will also pay for printing costs for the trial problem.

This is the team's second year to compete with other Kentucky high schools. Students in mock trial portray prosecution and defense attorneys and witnesses. This year's problem involves a murder centered around domestic violence.

The teams are evaluated by judges, attorneys and law students on their knowledge of the rules of evidence (a modified version of the federal rules of evidence), their ability to think on their feet and their ability to portray real lawyers and witnesses in a high stakes case.

Last year, the team shared notebooks. This year, thanks to the support of local lawyers, each student and coach will have their own materials.

Practices will continue with local members of the legal community helping students prepare. Sheriff Mark Green is scheduled to speak with students on his experiences in court and working murder cases as a police officer.
