District One Engineer earns honor for bridge reconstruction

Mike McGregor, Transportation Engineer Branch Manager for Project Development in Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 1 at Paducah, was recently recognized by KATE- The Kentucky Association of Transportation Engineers as the organization’s 2011”Engineer of the Year.”

McGregor was recognized for his work in planning the Lake Bridges Project (www.lakebridges.com) that will lead to the replacement of the US 68 Lake Barkley Bridge at Canton and the US 68 Eggners Ferry Bridge over Kentucky Lake at Aurora.  McGregor also played a substantial role in developing emergency repair plans for the Eggners Ferry Bridge after it was struck by an 8200 ton ship in January.

Mike McGregor started his career with KYTC working summers as a scholarship student.  He has served in various leadership positions within District 1 which builds and maintains highways in Kentucky’s 12 westernmost counties.

The KATE organizations was developed to advance the professional reputation of Transportation Engineers working in Kentucky State Government through the interchange of technical knowledge in Transportation Engineering, fostering true engineering ethics, promoting employment practices for Transportation Engineers in state government that are based solely on professional factors, and promoting the public interest through the services of Transportation Engineers.
