Old Duffers and Powder Puffers in "What's on TV?"

(Clinton, KY)- May 8, 2013 - Bearing the humorous name Old Duffers and Powder Puffers, a group of senior thespians put on a show that left their contemporaries laughing. The group of six women and one man donned funny hats and simple costumes and performed two skits at the Senior Citizen Center on May 8th in Clinton.

The group, directed by Lisa Cope, Executive Director of Murray's Playhouse in the Park, has been together for several years. They found that reading scripts makes for less stress and more fun.  No one at the Senior Center in Clinton seemed to mind the scripts.

Scripts are drawn from radio shows, internet offerings and short humorous pieces. Director Cope reported that the one time the group presented a serious reading it was not well received. "The cast loved it." She said. "The audience did not."

The first skit, "Courtroom Capers" featured wacky legal adversaries, a grumpy judge and a disrespectful clerk. It's a series of one liners, puns and misunderstandings with a dollop of double entendres thrown in just for fun.

The second "What's on TV?" was a mishmash of what happens when a channel surfer changes channels way too often. Hilarity resulted from the gardening lady finishing the cook's sentence.  "Garnish your salad with"...ends with "smelly compost" from a cheerful cherub. Advice for the lovelorn gets garbled with pet care. "Take her someplace special" ends with "the vet for her shots."

The Hickman County Arts Council sponsored the appearance of Old Duffers and Powder Puffers in Clinton. The hope is that seniors in the audience will be inspired to form a similar group in Clinton.

Players at the event were Nelson Shroat, Gerry Mellon, Joyce Morrison, Linda Cherry, Nancy Manning and Diana Mishica. The group is directed by Lisa Cope. Lisa's husband Cliff Cope came along to drive their bus.
