Treasurer Todd Hollenbach "pro-life fiscal conservative Democrat"

State Treasurer Todd Hollenbach (Murray KY, June 21, 2013) – State Treasurer Todd Hollenbach is a perennial favorite with Democratic crowds. He always delivers a cheerfully scathing indictment of the other party, using humor, quotes and poetry to make his points.

The 2013 Purchase Area Jefferson Jackson Dinner was no exception.

Hollenbach told the crowd that Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee’s party switch to Democratic was a blip on the news.  He used Chafee’s change to make a point that Dems are accepting of a range of ideologies.

Hollenbach said that defining a Kentucky Democrat is a difficult task. He called himself a “pro-life fiscal conservative Democrat.”  Hollenbach defined a Democrat as a person who has a desire to do things “to help people in an affirmative way.”

Senator McConnell and his party, according to Hollenbach, is defined by what they are against. It’s easy to get folks motivated to vote against something that make them angry.

“There’s always a joker who can find fault. That seems to be the guiding philosophy of the Republican Party.”

That, according to Treasurer Hollenbach, makes it harder to be a Democrat.

“We need to be for things.”
