Four Paducah Middle School eighth graders reached the semi-final round of the state speech tournament held on the campus of the University of Kentucky on March 28-29, 2014. Semi-finalists were Ella Bailey in solo acting, Ella Bailey/Jamie Black in improvisational duo, Marco Garcia in impromptu speaking, and Alexandra Wisner in prose.

Several students also finished in the top three during a preliminary round: Ella Bailey/Alexandra Wisner, first place in duet acting; Jamie Black, second place in poetry; Kate Criner/Erin Kelly, third place in duet acting; and Emily Krall, third place in storytelling.
