The Grimes campaign opened a campaign office in Paducah this morning. The office is the latest in a group of offices located around the state. The new office, located in the former Enterprise car rental building, is across from Paducah's Noble Park. Supporters and campaign workers showed up early to meet the candidate. 

Campaign volunteer Ida Heady started working for Grimes in the months before the campaign opened its office. Heady, an African American, who lives in West Paducah,was at the opening with her daughter, Angie. Heady said that turnout is key to a Grimes victory. People, she said, just don’t vote. She said that when people know that their votes count, they will be more likely to show up at the polls.

When asked what she thought a recent poll showing Grimes ahead of McConnell by 1% among women, Heady said she didn’t believe it. “I don’t put much trust in polls.”

If Grimes is to win in November, she will need to do better than other Democratic candidates have against McConnell in western Kentucky. McConnell has handily defeated his last two opponents, Bruce Lunsford and Lois Combs Weinberg, in the first Congressional District by comfortable margins.
