Witnessing history: 2nd woman to become KY Lt. Gov
Mary Potter, West Kentucky Journal (Frankfort KY) - Crit Luallen was sworn in on Friday, November 14th to become the second woman to serve as Kentucky's Lieutenant Governor. She took the oath before a crowd of 500 in the Rotunda of the State Capitol. Present were the state's constitutional officers, press and a large contingent of Luallen's family. Her roots go back to early Kentucky and include two former governors. Governor Steve Beshear picked his new partner when Lt. Governor Jerry Abramson accepted a job in the Obama White House. During his remarks, the Governor said she was his first and only choice. Luallen has served in multiple executive offices in the Capitol. She was Cabinet Secretary to Governor Paul Patton. She ran for and won two terms as Kentucky State Auditor. The newly appointed lieutenant governor has said repeatedly that she does not plan to run for governor. She has already endorsed Attorney General Jack Conway for the job. In her remarks, Luallen made no promises and revealed no agenda for her new job. Speculation exists that she will become Beshear's point person in dealing with the Kentucky General Assembly when it resumes in early January 2015.
