Donald Trump - a platform years in the making

The national media plays at being shocked that the billionaire realtor turned adept politician. Trump is leading in GOP polls. Trump looks to be making it up as he goes along. He doesn't use notes or a teleprompter. His pronouncements on foreign and domestic policy sound like he is reacting to 2016 voter sentiments. Nothing could be further from the truth. This run has been in the works for years. He has been writing his platform for years. In his 2012 book, "Time to Get Tough: Making America #1 Again" Donald Trump laid out plans. An article written by Brett Decker dated January 15, 2014 "Donald Trump's winning 2016 platform" examined the strategy Trump had laid down two years before. Decker listed some of Trump's ideas: Attack National Debt Through Entitlements Cuts: The United States borrows billions of dollars every day to fund the government. Even dramatically cutting discretionary spending will not significantly slow the growth of the $17.3 trillion debt without touching entitlement programs. Mr. Trump isn't afraid of this sacred cow. For example, "If we slowly increased the full retirement age to even just 70, one-third of the $5.3 trillion shortfall would be eliminated right away," he writes of Social Security. Drill Baby Drill - Trump wrote "The natural gas reserves we have in the United States could power America's energy needs for the next 110 years." According to his book, there is enough crude oil to last for decades. He supports a dramatic escalation of domestic drilling to provide jobs and minimize dependency on foreign cartels. Repeal Obamacare: Mr. Trump promises he would kill the Affordable Care Act with the stroke of a pen on his first day in office if he were president. He would then help drive prices down in the private health care market by pushing tort reform to curtail lawsuit abuse and increasing competition by allowing consumers to purchase insurance policies across state lines, thus multiplying their options. We looked at Trump's website for his campaign issues. Here are the stated policy positions from his website: 1. Reform US China trade relations 2. Reform Veterans Administration 3. The Second Amendment: in our Constitution is clear. The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed upon. Period. 4. Tax relief for middle class Americans: In order to achieve the American dream, let people keep more money in their pockets and increase after-tax wages. A. If you are single and earn less than $25,000, or married and jointly earn less than $50,000, you will not owe any income tax. That removes nearly 75 million households - over 50% - from the income tax rolls. They get a new one page form to send the IRS saying, "I win," those who would otherwise owe income taxes will save an average of nearly $1,000 each. 5. Immigration Reform A. A nation without borders is not a nation. There must be a wall across the southern border. Make Mexico Pay For The Wall - For many years, Mexico's leaders have been taking advantage of the United States by using illegal immigration to export the crime and poverty in their own country (as well as in other Latin American countries).
