Murray, KY - The Paducah Middle School speech team took second place overall at the Kentucky High School Speech League regional competition at Murray High School on Saturday, February 6. In addition to the strong team finish, two students earned Regional Champion designations in individual events. Eighth grader Kate Criner was named Regional Champion in Solo Acting, and sixth grader Paige Kight was named Regional Champion in Original Oratory.


Seventh grader Vic Tyler took Regional Runner-Up in Solo Acting. The sixth grade team of Lois Akpabio and Gabby Copeland were named Regional Runners-Up in two categories, Duet Acting and Improvisational Duo.
Criner, Kight, Tyler, Akpabio and Copeland will all advance to the state tournament at the University of Kentucky on March 25 and 26. They will be joined by sixteen other team members who either qualified at the regional tournament or had pre-qualified earlier in the season. Other team members advancing to state are Grace Bakehouse, Zyla Dortch, Liberty Guyette, Karlie Hack, Catherine Holm, Erin Kelly, Sam Kirchhoff, Emily Krall, Ben LeBuhn, Walker McNeill, Dylan Nevels, Hadley Pierce, Jenna Price, Brandon Reichard, Travis Trimble, and Zach Ybarzabal.
