Middle school girls may bring a parent to Graves High for '#LIKEAGIRL - A Confidence Summit' Saturday, Apri

Being a teenaged girl in the new millennium brings lots of challenges. Learning from responsible, successful, and confident older teen girls and women can make facing those challenges far less daunting! That's why the Mayfield-Graves County Tourism Commission, in partnership with Mayfield and Graves County high schools, is presenting #LIKEAGIRL - A Confidence Summit.

Anthem Medicaid sponsors the event, making it free-of-charge to any middle school girl and her parent in the region who want to attend! Those present can win door prizes valued at $50 each! Snappy Tomato Pizza will provide a free lunch! And, nationally-known Davina Merritt is the keynote speaker! It's scheduled to take place between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, April 16, in the commons of Graves County High School, near the intersection of the Purchase Parkway and Ky. Highway 121.

This unique and valuable event emerged from teacher Michelle McKee's Graves County High School Tourism Class, as presented to the Mayfield-Graves County Tourism Commission. The Always 'LIKEAGIRL" You Tube videos inspire the theme. The high school girls will act as mentors that day to the middle school girls, establishing connections before the younger girls reach high school.

Davina Merritt, the founder of Fostering Hope for America, offers a meaningful and practical message that is at once serious, heartfelt, and even fun! For years, she has traveled the world speaking about subjects ranging from leadership training to foster parenting and chronic pain. Her message resonates with all who hear her, including those suffering from abandonment, toxic relationships and associated fears. She helps young people see the benefits of setting and maintaining healthy boundaries. Breakout sessions and vendors' booths add more specific tools to the event.

Pre-registration is available through the Mayfield-Graves County Tourism Commission's Facebook page Events. Pre-Registration is not required; however, it is encouraged for planning purposes, especially for lunch.
